CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY - RESIDENCY

About the profession

Clinical pharmacology today is an established discipline that makes it possible to significantly improve not only the quality, but also the economic indicators of the level of medical care. The program is implemented using various forms of education and modern digital educational technologies. The training process provides an opportunity to acquire practical skills in a multidisciplinary hospital under the guidance of experienced doctors. The formation of modern practical skills is also provided by the simulation training course. The main educational goal of clinical pharmacology is to train a highly qualified specialist with knowledge and skills in the development and monitoring of effective and safe pharmacotherapy based on data from preclinical, clinical, epidemiological and pharmacoeconomic studies.

The learning process

The tasks of clinical pharmacology were defined more than 30 years ago by the World Health Organization (WHO): "To improve the health of patients by increasing the safety and effectiveness of the use of medicines." Clinical pharmacology bridges the gap between drug manufacturers and clinicians, as it covers the pharmacological and clinical aspects of treatment. Since the activities of the pharmacological service are aimed at solving the problems of drug therapy, the program is aimed at training a highly qualified specialist, the most important aspect of whose work is to conduct a competent clinical and pharmacological audit of the patient's treatment with drugs.

Practice

Residents are assigned to the departments of the clinical bases of the department, where, under the guidance of the professors of the department, they have the opportunity not only to expand their knowledge, but also to apply their knowledge in practice. During the internship, clinical case reviews are conducted for students, which allows them to gain extensive clinical experience and develop skills to assess the rationality of pharmacotherapy in accordance with recommendations and treatment standards based on reliable evidence-based medicine.

Career

Clinical pharmacologists are in demand in many areas of fundamental and clinical medicine and have the opportunity to realize themselves in the following areas: pharmaceutical industry, non-governmental medicine, insurance companies, government clinics, research centers, pharmaceutical supervision authorities and the Ministry of Health. Currently, there is a shortage of clinical pharmacologists in the practical healthcare system, which determines the need for training young highly qualified specialists.
